JAMB releases new cut-off marks,

JAMB released new cut-off marks for tertiary institutions - The institutions are however at liberty to raise theirs above JAMB's requirement - JAMB also lifted the ban on Post-UTME The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the cut-off marks for Nigerian tertiary institutions while also lifting the ban for post UTME examination. Premium Times reports that these decisions were taken at the 2017 Combined Policy Meetings on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria which ended on Tuesday, August 22. Minimum cut-off marks for tertiary institutions are: READ ALSO: Federal Government lifts ban on Post-UTME exams Universities were pegged at 120 Polytechnics and colleges of education were pegged at 100 Innovative enterprising institutes was pegged at 110 Institutions were however allowed to raise their cut-off marks above JAMB’s stipulation. It was also agreed that admissions into public degree awarding institutions for the 2017 UTME examination will end on January 15, 2018 while private institutions will end theirs on January 31, 2018. It was also revealed that decisions on first choice candidates by universities will be expected to be complete October 15 and second choice candidates will end on December 15. The rest of the students seeking admission will be available for other institutions till the January closing dates. Ishaq Oloyede who is the registrar of JAMB said a Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) will be used to streamline admission processes among institutions based on challenges associated with the former approach. He said: “All over the world, there is agitation for dynamic educational policy,” he said. “JAMB only admits for National Diploma, not Higher National Diploma; so why should we use the same requirement for ND and BSC, that is unreasonable parity.” “We should not be sentimental in fixing our cut off mark; we need not over-dramatise issue of cut off mark.” He noted that the number of those seeking admission to study agriculture had dropped while those for medicine and health science rose. He also spoke about illegal admissions saying the new process allows the registrar to approve all candidates. “About 17,160 students were admitted without JAMB across institutions in Nigeria.” The Federal Government explained that all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school.

Biafra: Boycotting Anambra elections is like somebody firing gun on his toes - Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma

Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma told Nnamdi Kanu that his latest order for a boycott of the upcoming Anambra elections is like somebody firing gun on his toes - He advised the IPOB leader and his followers to stop calling for the division of the country and work for peace instead - He however supported the call for restructuring and noted that there has to be a unifying umbrella where Igbo stakeholders will gather and register their protest - The cleric also thanked God for the safe return of President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that his entire ministry had been praying for the president Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, a fiery Catholic priest, gave his opinion about the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) agitations in a closed door meeting with the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Vanguard reports. NAIJ.com gathers that during a visit by the IPOB leader, the priest who presides over the Blessed Iwene Tansi Parish, Umudioka, Dunukofia local government area of Anambra, reportedly stated that Igbos are selfish in nature, yet they are clamoring for a sovereign state. He told Kanu that his latest decision to boycott the upcoming Anambra elections is like “somebody firing gun on his toes,” as he asked him whether Igbos are mature enough to handle their own affairs. He condemned the call for the boycott by Kanu and his group and advised them to stop calling for the division of the country. Obimma asked Kanu and his supporters to work for peace instead. In a chat with newsmen, the priest stated that he had a fruitful discussion with Kanu on issues of general concern and the way forward. Speaking further on the details of the meeting, he said: “For me, it will be more problematic to say that there won’t be any election in Anambra, it is like somebody firing gun on his toes. “Christ came into the world and reincarnated the message of peace and that was why I advised Kanu to uphold peace, following the tensions everywhere in the country. Let love lead all that we do. “I advised him to do anything within his power to instill peace. Even in their agitation, let there be prudence.” Obimma however criticized the marginalization of certain sections of the country, lamenting over the inequality in the distribution of the nation’s resources. He expressed his support for a restructuring of the nation, stating: “In our country Nigeria, it is certain that there is marginalization, nepotism and tribalism. “We are one Nigeria but some people are being marginalized and that is why we have all these agitations; but in everything, let there be prudence as we also pray for divine intervention. “Igbos are clamoring for Biafra but an average Igbo man is selfish in nature and the question is, how matured are we to handle our affairs. “Where are the Igbo cabals and stakeholders; like Nnia Nwodo, Peter Obi, Emeka Anyaoku, Ifeanyi Ubah, Prof. Charles Soludo, Emmanuel Iwuanwaywu, and many others? “There has to be a unifying umbrella where they will gather and register their protest.” He spoke further about the recent return of President Muhammadu Buhari stating: “We thank God for Buhari’s return and the entire ministry has been praying for his safe return. “Nobody will wish a fellow human being dead. The President should know that Nigerians love him.” Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) denied reports that its leader Nnamdi Kanu withdrew the group's call for a boycott of the November 18, Anambra election. The group said at no time did Kanu say IPOB will be part of the elections in the state.

Secret Leaked

How Boko Haram told Chibok girls they were going home. Last week the freedom for the 21 Chibok girls released by the Boko Haram sect was as dramatic as their abduction over two years ago. On April 14, 2014, 276 young girls were abducted from the Government Secondary School in Chibok Borno State by the Boko Haram. Fortunately, 57 of the kidnapped school girls were able to escape, leaving 219 in captivity. The release of the 21 girls followed a series of negotiations between Government and the Boko Haram group, brokered by our friends both local and International. Since this administration assumed office, they have been working towards the safe release of the girls. On Wednesday, October 12, the eve of their release, it never occurred to the girls that the freedom they longed for was near. According to a report on Friday, October 21 by CNN quoting a parent of one of the girls, their abductors simply woke them up early in the morning and got them lined up, then they began to read out the names of the girls one by one. What followed next was the news that they would be returning home to their loved ones. The girls were picked up by military helicopter from Banki area of Borno state where Boko Haram militants dropped them off. The parent, who pleaded anonymity also said that during their time with Boko Haram, the girls were forced to build their own basic shelter, using plastic bags for roofing. One of the Chibok schoolgirls, who refused to marry a Boko Haram fighter, was told she would be killed. Her abductors had a change of heart and commuted her sentence to 100 lashes. President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, October 19, who formally received the freed girls and their parents at the State House, Abuja pledged that the federal government would assume full responsibility for their personal, educational and professional goals and ambitions in life.

Corruption: Buhari has letters implicating Goodluck Jonathan

Corruption: Buhari has letters implicating Goodluck Jonathan – President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly in possession of some letters written by former president Goodluck Jonathan implicating him of corruption – According to Buhari, stability of the nation’s political system seemed to be at stake if the EFCC should go after Jonathan or any former President or military leader. Former president Goodluck Jonathan President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly in possession of some letters written by former president Goodluck Jonathan implicating him of corruption, Punch is reporting. According to the report, Mr Jonathan in some of the letter had requested “off-budget funds”- which means as funds not provided for or included in the regular Federal Government budget; funded by sources other than the federal budget. This information is contained in in Buhari’s authorised biography, ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’, written by Prof. John Paden. But the author said the President’s purpose of waging the corruption war was not to jail former top government officials but to retrieve the stolen funds. He said the stability of the nation’s political system seemed to be at stake if the EFCC should go after Jonathan or any former President or military leader for that matter. “The fact that Buhari was enlisting the help of international community in the probes lent weight to the seriousness of his effort – and also meant that alleged offenders had nowhere to hide. “Would the trail lead to former President Jonathan himself? As of the early months of 2016, it appeared that the EFCC was not going after Jonathan. Nor was it going after former President Obasanjo. “The question of the stability of the entire political system seemed at stake. “In addition, a number of senior military officers, who had served as Heads of State – from Babangida to Abubakar – seemed off-limits. “Indeed, rumours swirled that if the probes went after senior officers, they might push back because they had extensive networks in the active military services. “At the same time, the knowledge such heavyweights possessed could well be traded for immunity and would help to illuminate the patterns and sources of corruption. “Buhari had letters in his possession showing Jonathan’s requests for off-budget funds. But Buhari’s larger purpose was not to put former high-level officials in jail. “Rather, it was to retrieve stolen funds and to change the political culture of the country.” 184 civil servants disciplined for their roles in the padding of 2016 budget The book has also revealed that 184 civil servants were disciplined for their roles in the padding of 2016 budget. It added that of the 184, 22 top officials were dismissed from service. “Buhari himself was frustrated by earlier padding of the budget by bureaucrats in some of the ministries. “This was interpreted by the Buhari team as an attempt to scuttle the innovations proposed by the President by inflating their costs. “When Buhari found out, he was reported to be angry and ordered a purge of the ministries involved from the Director-General down. “Twenty-two top officials were dismissed, including the budget director. In all, 184 civil servants were disciplined.” He added that even after the budget had been adjusted downward by the National Assembly, the country would still have to borrow $3.5bn, as a result of the drop in oil prices.

Patience Jonathan pleads to the EFCC

– Patience Jonathan has written to the EFCC to lift the restriction on her account – The former first lady claimed the account which contained $31.4 million was for paying her medical bills and personal expenses – The EFCC froze the account on corruption-related investigation Patience Jonathan has written to Ibrahim Magu, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) explaining that the $31.4 million found in her account is for her medical expenses. The former first lady had initially filed a suit against the anti-graft agency after the account linked to her was frozen. The Guardian reports that the account is being fingered as one of those involved in an alleged fraud case before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos but Mrs Jonathan’s counsel, Gboyega Oduwole has filed a case before the court, informing that his client is unhappy with the EFCC over the recent move to freeze the account. Former first lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan has begged Ibrahim Magu, Amajuoyi Azubike Briggs, an ex-presidential aide; Damola Bolodeoku, a former Skye Bank official; Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited and Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited had all been charged to court over their individual involvement in the fraudulent activities with companies without address. Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited, Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited and Globus Integrated Services Limited were also charged with the same offence. Vanguard however reports that Patience has now changed tactic and wrote directly to the EFCC boss asking for the sanction on her account to be lifted. In a letter through her lawyer, Sammie Somiari, the former first lady explained to Magu that she was a law-abiding citizen and used the account to pay for her medical bills and personal expenses. “It is noteworthy to emphasise that the said accounts, which were in US dollar denomination, were card-based accounts and our client is the sole signatory to these accounts. “Our client has been operating the said accounts using the cards for her medical bill payments and purchases for her private purposes without any let or hindrance. “Our client was therefore surprised when the said cards stop functioning on July 7, 2016, or thereabout. Our client immediately, thereupon, contacted Skye Bank Plc through our solicitors. ‘‘It was only then that the bank officials informed our client that the said accounts were placed on a ‘No Debit Order’ following investigations and instruction from your commission and this is without notice to our client by either the bank or the commission. Ibrahim Magu, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission “It is in the light of the foregoing that we urge you to use your good offices to vacate the ‘No Debit/Freezing Order’ placed on the said accounts.” “Despite the foregoing, our client, who is a law-abiding citizen, has watched with surprise how efforts are being made surreptitiously to indirectly harass or harangue her and short-change her of her personal funds in breach of her fundamental human rights. “We urge you sir, to kindly intervene to stop the untoward and wrongful actions of your officials to embarrass, inconvenience and short-change our client.” It will be recalled that in February, 2013 while Goodluck Jonathan was still president, Patience had said she was affected by health challenges and that she underwent seven surgery operations within one month and the doctors had given up hope on her survival. She claimed she even died but later woke up. “I remember when Chief Obasanjo was the President of the country, I was close to his late wife, Stella. We worshiped together in this chapel. It was a painful moment for me that time when she (Stella) died and her corpse was brought here. “That was how my corpse would have been brought here. It was not an easy experience for me. I actually died, I passed out for more than a week. My intestine and tummy were opened. “I am not Lazarus but my experience was similar to his. My doctors said all hope was lost. “A black doctor in London who is with us in this service was flown in when the situation became critical. It was God himself in His infinite mercy that said I will return to Nigeria. God woke me up after seven days. “I know that some people somehow leaked the information that I was dead. They are people that I trust and rely on; to them, I was dead and I would never return to the country alive. Some of them even sold my things off. “I won’t say everything here. It is the Lord’s doing that I returned alive. When God says yes, nobody can say no. “People are always afraid of operation (surgery) but in my own case, while my travail lasted, I was begging for it (surgery) after the third operation because I was going to the theatre everyday.” An EFCC source said: “What we have noticed is that in order to conceal funds, what politicians and top civil servants do is to open bank accounts in the name of family or friends and then make themselves the sole signatory to the account. “Don’t forget that we traced about 17 bank accounts to the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (retd.). “Often times, they do this in connivance with bank officials and that is why the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has said henceforth, whenever we are investigating a bank official, we will probe the entire bank as well because these officials usually act under the instruction of their superiors.”

Vanguard reports that the deadly group has been operating in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of the state by blowing up oil and gas pipelines but has now shown its willingness to dialogue and surrender. In a statement by Mr. Samuel Onwuemeodo who is the chief press secretary to the governor, the laying-down-of-weapon ceremony will hold on Wednesday, September 14 at the government’s house in Owerri. “Governor Rochas Okorocha will be leveraging on the amnesty programme to receive militants, who have been fighting as Avengers in the Ohaji/Egbema area of the state. “They will be expected to drop their weapons at the event. “These are militants, who have been blowing pipelines and making the people in the area to have sleepless nights, until the Governor decided to take the bull by the horn”. ATM MACHINE SHOCK AT UBA

I went for my business today Tuesday 13 September 2016. I was still in the market when it began to rain heavily but because of the damage it would have done to my pc and other accessories I stayed back at one corner until the reduced a bit, I then bought some of the stuff I came for and later noticed that I don't have enough money on me for my transport fair. So, I went to withdraw some money from the ATM at UBA BANK at Iweka along Ochanga market road.. When I saw some group of people including male and female murmuring about the the shock of the ATM Machine. I doubted it and went ahead to withdraw mine and I we're witnessed the same shock. I could go for any other bank then I made use of a paper by folding it and then used it to press the ATM machine button for the withdrawal. Thank God that no one was injured in the process but I think UBA should do something quick about it.

Costa scores twice but Chelsea draw Diego Costa scores twice but Chelsea draw

Diego Costa scored twice but could not prevent Chelsea losing their 100 percent Premier League record in a controversial 2-2 draw at Swansea on Sunday.
The result left Manchester City two points clear of them at the top of the table. The fiery Spain striker scored in the 17th minute as Antonio Conte's team took control of the game before conceding twice in quick succession. In the 59th minute goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois gave away a penalty by fouling Gylfi Sigurdsson after a Swansea counter-attack and the Iceland international got up to convert it. Then Gary Cahill was dispossessed by Leroy Fer and apparently fouled, but Fer was allowed to go on and score. Nine minutes from the end Costa, who also received his third yellow card in four games, equalised with an overhead scissors kick that might have been penalised for dangerous play. It all added up to one of the most dramatic Premier League games of the season so far, which Chelsea, who had 28 attempts on goal, dominated for almost an hour. They should have been further ahead at the interval. Lukasz Fabianski made saves from Willian, Eden Hazard and Cesar Azpilicueta, before Costa was guilty of an extraordinary miss. As John Terry flicked on a corner the Spanish international was unmarked two metres from goal but directed the ball wide. Fortunately for the Londoners, Costa had been sharper earlier on, guiding the ball perfectly just inside a post as Oscar laid it square to him. It was poor Swansea defending, however, as Federico Fernandez twice failed to clear. Manager Francesco Guidolin changed tactics from a misfiring 3-5-1-1 system before halftime, withdrawing the disgruntled Welsh international Neil Taylor for Gambian winger Modou Barrow. He could hardly have envisaged such a dramatic turnaround, helped as it was by mistakes from Courtois and Cahill. Costa continued to be involved in controversy right to the finish. Booked for a foul, he could have been sent off after an apparent dive, but had the last word with an acrobatic effort that may have made slight contact with defender Kyle Naughton's head and went in off Federico Fernandez's face.

Guardiola wins, Arsenal leave it late

Pep Guardiola rocked old foe Jose Mourinho as Premier League leaders Manchester City extended their perfect start with a 2-1 win at Manchester United, while Liverpool crushed champions Leicester 4-1 on Saturday. City manager Guardiola inflicted the first defeat of Mourinho's United reign and collected his eighth win in 17 encounters with his nemesis in a pulsating encounter at Old Trafford.
Guardiola's side took the lead in a sweet moment of revenge for Kevin De Bruyne, acrimoniously sold by Mourinho when the pair were together at Chelsea, as the Belgium midfielder punished Daley Blind's uncertainty to slot past David de Gea in the 15th minute. Kelechi Iheanacho doubled City's lead in the 36th minute when he tapped in after a De Bruyne shot hit the post and rebounded to the Nigeria forward. A blunder from City's debutant goalkeeper Claudio Bravo allowed United to reduce the deficit in the 42nd minute when he dropped a cross and Zlatan Ibrahimovic pounced to lash home. But City held firm in a frantic second-half despite more nervous moments from Bravo, whose studs-up lunge on Wayne Rooney could have drawn a penalty and a red card. Guardiola has now masterminded four successive Premier League wins since arriving from Bayern Munich in the close season and his team sit three points clear of third-placed United and second-placed Chelsea, who travel to Swansea on Sunday. "We're happy. These guys have a heart. In the first-half we were better and won a lot of duels against a physically stronger team," Guardiola said. "In the second-half, the long balls, you just pray because it's almost impossible to control that." Mourinho added: "I had two or three players in the first-half that, if I know what is going to happen, I don't play them. "This is football and sometimes players disappoint managers. It's my fault because I'm the manager." 'BIG QUALITY' In front of the biggest Anfield crowd since May 1977, 53 000 fans watched Liverpool mark the unveiling of their extended main stand with a ruthless demolition of Claudio Ranieri's champions. Roberto Firmino opened the scoring with a clinical finish in the 13th minute and Sadio Mane increased Liverpool's advantage with a close-range effort in the 31st. Liverpool midfielder Lucas, playing out of position in central defence, gave Leicester a lifeline with a terrible 38th-minute backpass that Jamie Vardy drilled into the empty net. But Adam Lallana's rocket in the 56th minute and Firmino's second in the 89th minute wrapped up Liverpool's second win of the season and left Leicester contemplating a lacklustre start to their title defence. "It was a good challenge because we can be really strong, but Leicester have big quality and we had to show we believed in our style. It was a good performance in a wonderful place," manager Jurgen Klopp said. At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal left it late to ease the pressure on Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who has been questioned over his transfer dealings and the team's slow opening to the season. The critics were sharpening their knives when Arsenal fell behind in the 18th minute through a Petr Cech own goal from Dusan Tadic's free-kick. But Arsenal equalised 11 minutes later thanks to a spectacular overhead kick from Laurent Koscielny. And Santi Cazorla secured Arsenal's second win of the season when the Spaniard stroked home a controversial penalty awarded for Jose Fonte's tackle on Olivier Giroud in the 94th minute. "It is a relief because we missed many chances and they had one or two opportunities having thrown everything forward," Wenger said. WELL DONE, SON Tottenham swept to a 4-0 victory at bottom-of-the-table Stoke as South Korean Son Heung-Min sparkled on his first appearance of the season. Son volleyed Tottenham in front just before halftime and netted again with a fine finish from 16 yards in the 56th minute. Dele Alli bagged Tottenham's third and Harry Kane sealed the rout with his first goal of the season in the 70th min
