AVENGERS RECEIVED BY ROCHAS OKORO IN IMO STATE

– Militants operating in Imo have decided to hand over their weapons to Governor Okorocha – The group decided to embrace dialogue after bombing pipelines – The governor urged other militants to embrace dialogue Niger Delta Avengers who have been operating in Imo state have decided to lay down their weapons t Governor Rochas Okorocha. Vanguard reports that the deadly group has been operating in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of the state by blowing up oil and gas pipelines but has now shown its willingness to dialogue and surrender. In a statement by Mr. Samuel Onwuemeodo who is the chief press secretary to the governor, the laying-down-of-weapon ceremony will hold on Wednesday, September 14 at the government’s house in Owerri. “Governor Rochas Okorocha will be leveraging on the amnesty programme to receive militants, who have been fighting as Avengers in the Ohaji/Egbema area of the state. “They will be expected to drop their weapons at the event. “These are militants, who have been blowing pipelines and making the people in the area to have sleepless nights, until the Governor decided to take the bull by the horn”. He added that Okorocha also called on “other Niger Delta Avengers or militants operating across the nation, to also drop their guns and embrace peace, in the overall interest of the nation and the citizenry.” Meanwhile, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, one of the groups operating in the area, took responsibility for the bombing of oil delivery line belonging to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company crossing Afiesere-Iwhrenene communities in Delta state. Greenland warned Nigerians over further attacks while revealing that Tuesday’s attack was carried out as part of ‘Operation Crocodile Tears’.
